how to remove glue from clothes using an Iron

Getting glue on your clothes is an absolute nightmare. Without harsh chemicals, there seems to be no way to get glue out of your clothes. Lucky for you there is hope! All you need is some basic kitchen appliances and an Iron!

Things you will need:

Bottle of Dr. Bronner’s – Pure-Castile Soap

  • Any household Iron
  • Paper towel
  • A regular towel
  • Iron board

How to remove glue from the fabric

To remove glue from the fabric we have to heat it up. Use a hot iron and place it on the glue stain. Once the glue becomes hot it will be easy to remove it using a scraping tool.

Here is an in-depth, step-by-step guide on how to remove glue from fabric using an iron!

Total Time: 5 minutes

  1. Wash and dry your fabric first

If you haven’t done so already the first thing you need to do is wash your fabric. There is a chance that most of the glue will be removed already.

  2. Preheat your iron to 204ºC

If you are trying to remove glue from cotton clothes the best temperature is 204ºC or 400ºF. This will ensure the glue will melt but your clothes will not be ruined.

  3. Place a paper towel and a normal towel over the glue stain

Place a paper towel over the glue stain. Then place an old towel or something similar over that.

  4. Iron over the glue stain

Now you need to iron the 2 towels. This will heat up the glue. Once the glue gets hot enough it will be soaked up by the paper towel.

While ironing, do not use the steam function. This will not help melt the glue and it will soak the paper towel making it less effective.

Note: Don’t leave the hot iron on for too long. This will either ruin the fabric or cause a fire hazard.

  5. Remove the leftover glue with a scraper

If there is still glue on the fabric after following all these steps you need to do some manual removal. Use a flat (plastic) object to scrape off any access glue.

While doing this be careful not to damage the fabric.

That’s it! Removing glue from fabric will most of the time be an easy task. However, sometimes there is nothing you can do about it.

Good luck!
